James "Eric" Williams, a man whose life was marked by passion, strength, and an unwavering love for family, passed away on April 13, 2026, in Stoutsville, Ohio. Born on June 15, 1964, in Columbus, Ohio, Eric lived a life full of remarkable achievements and heartfelt connections that left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Eric’s journey began in his hometown, where he nurtured a love for sports that would shape much of his life. A proud 1987 graduate of Bowling Green State University, Eric celebrated one of his proudest moments as a dedicated athlete playing football for the 1985 Champion Bowling Green State University Falcons in the California Bowl. His athletic prowess was only a glimpse of his larger-than-life personality. Known for his humor, selflessness, and protective nature, Eric was a man who never shied away from being himself, caring little for the opinions of others and always standing up for what he believed in.
A gifted athlete beyond the football field, Eric was an avid weight lifter who valued fitness deeply. Even at the age of 59, his strength was awe-inspiring; he lifted an astounding 605 pounds, a testament to his dedication and discipline. His love for the outdoors and sports extended into his cherished annual deer hunting trips, creating memories that brought joy and togetherness.
Eric’s career was as robust as his spirit. He held a CDL license and was the proud owner of Williams Painting, a business that exemplified his work ethic and commitment. Those who worked with him admired not only his skill but also his big heart and generous nature.
He shared a loving marriage with his wife of five years, April (Preece) Williams. Proud of his daughter, Faye Williams. Eric was deeply loved and respected by his mother, Janice Williams, who stood as a pillar of support throughout his life. His siblings Harold (Kay) Williams, Jr., Tara (Kurt) Louys, and Brad (Kim) Williams also carry forward his legacy, bound by deep affection and shared history, also survived by several aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eric’s father, Harold Williams, Sr., preceded him in death, yet his spirit and values lived on through his son’s actions and character. Eric’s larger-than-life presence, his generosity of spirit, and his protective nature will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege to know him.
Friends, family, and all those touched by Eric’s life are invited to celebrate his memory at a visitation on April 22, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed immediately by the funeral service from 1:00 p.m. Both gatherings will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123.
Though Eric has departed from this world, the echoes of his laughter, the strength of his character, and the warmth of his heart will remain forever in the lives he enriched. His story is one of love, resilience, and the unyielding spirit of a man who lived fully and loved deeply. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
