James Francis Fravel

James Francis Fravel, 71, of Whitehall, passed away at home surrounded by his family on January 31, 2026.

James was born January 31, 1955 in Columbus, OH to the late James L. Fravel and Frances (Bevelhymer) Fravel.

He was an avid woodworker, enjoyed watching sprint car racing but most importantly spending time with his family. James graduated from New Albany Schools and worked at New Albany Mill while in high school. He then worked at New Albany Golf Club, Plain Township, Franklin County Engineers and for the City of Gahanna.

James will be deeply missed by his wife Janet (Haycook) Fravel of 32 years; children Joe (Miranda) Fravel, step-daughter Jessica (AJ) Ali; grandchildren Emily Cano, Isaac Cano, Julie Cano, Alex Cano and Katelynn Ali along with many other family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents and sister Jann.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 10am until the time of service at 12pm at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.

Be Free My time has come, but don’t grieve for me. I’m safely home where I have strived to be. 

My life has been full and I have loved so much, especially warm smiles and a gentle baby’s touch. But nothing as valuable as loving so many in days of want and days when there was plenty. 

Some days will be tough, but those will pass soon enough. Remember each person’s good and where they once stood. 

Our past creates the future, brighter than today. Keep up the fight, for we will meet again someday. 

In a place that is brighter, one fit for a fighter. Be faithful and strong, as life comes along. So you too can be free, one day just like me!
