James Anderson Hewitt, 90, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 after 5 years of illness.
He retired from the Columbus School System working as superintendent of painting/decoration for 32 years.
He worked over 10 years as a private painting contractor.
James was in the United States Navy for four years and Navy Reserves for twenty years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Alkire Hewitt; sister, Ruth Hewitt Nelson; brother, Cecil Hewitt; parents, Alta Anderson Hewitt Dyke, Milo Hewitt and step dad, Sam Dyke.
Survivors include son, Gregory Hewitt of Columbus; sister, Mary Dyke Woodrum of The Villages, FL; brother, John Dyke of Fairborn, OH.
James graduated from Rutland High School, Rutland, OH and grew up in southern Ohio, Meigs County.
He spent most of his adult life in Columbus, OH.
James was an avid golfer and watched a lot of sports on television.
He also loved to go deer hunting with his brother John.
His son Greg was his caregiver the last two years.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 1:00-1:30 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus.
Graveside service with military honors will be Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Northlawn Memory Gardens.
