James "Jim" W. Davis, born on June 10, 1946, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on March 9, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. He lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, and love for his family. Jim was a graduate of Central High School and proudly served in the Army and Army Reserves from 1966 to 1994. A Vietnam Veteran and served in Operation Desert Storm, he was a highly decorated service member, reflecting his commitment to his country.
Jim had a notable career as a mechanic at Ft. Hayes and later became self-employed, owning JD's Maintenance. Known as a jack of all trades, he was always busy working on various projects. His industrious nature earned him the nickname "Lawn Ranger" in his neighborhood. Outside of work, Jim enjoyed fishing and boating, spending time outdoors whenever he could.
To those who knew him, Jim was trustworthy and dependable, a man of few words who expressed his love through acts of service. He was a devoted husband to Betty, his wife of 52 years, and a loving father to his daughters, Chrissy (Mike) Crist and Missy (Arkus) Pennington. He adored his grandchildren, Leeann and Hank Haywood, Aiden, Arrik, and Asher Pennington, and cherished his time with them. Jim's home also included his beloved feline children, Hummer and Minnie Cooper.
As the supportive strength of his family, Jim was regarded as a hero by his daughters. He leaves behind a loving sister, Marcia Wendel, and brother-in-law, Tom O'Grady. He is remembered by his niece, Pam Bocook, and nephews, Bobby Bocook, Ryan Pierce, Wesley Mulpas, as well as Aunt Betty Ganson and many cousins, along with countless lifelong friends who admired his character and spirit.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Dorothy (Hawkins) Davis, and two sisters, Dorothy "Dottie" Coldren and Yvonne "Toodles" O'Grady.
Visitation will be held on March 18, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123. The funeral service will take place the following day, March 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the same location, with a graveside service scheduled for 1:00 PM at Sunset Cemetery, 6959 W Broad St, Galloway, OH 43119.
James "Jim" W. Davis lived fully, served honorably, and loved deeply, leaving a legacy that will endure in the hearts of his family and friends.
