JAMES RICHARD MITCHELL, age 77, of Columbus, Ohio, made his final journey around the sun, to the SON, on Sunday, December 8, 2013. He was surrounded by his beloved wife and best friend of 55+ years, Alice Ann, and all of his family, singing songs of praise and thanksgiving as he was ushered into eternity. He was born on August 8, 1936, to James and Lillian (Lane) Mitchell of Columbus, Ohio. Jim was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, class of 1954, then served our country for 4 years in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Ohio Bell after 35 years of faithful service as a supervisor. He was an active member of St. Stephen the Martyr parish for 48 years, member of the church choir, member of Vaud-Villities, as well as a faithful volunteer and contributor over the years to many organizations and charities throughout the community. Jim absolutely loved the sea, ships, spending time with Alice, his children, grandchildren, family and friends. His life passions included boating, fishing, walking the beaches with Alice, and traveling all over the world. Jim had an unconditional love like none other and is still loved by all of whom ever had the privilege of meeting him and coming to know him personally. His heart was as big as the universe and his love for Jesus and his family, immense. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his lovely wife, Alice; sons, Michael Mitchell, John Mitchell, David (Susan) Mitchell, and daughter, Sandy (Tony) McClung; sister, Judith (Ivan) Woltmann; grandchildren, Lindsey Mitchell, Nathan Epling, Jacob (Lisa) Epling, Moriah Epling, Isaiah Epling, and Elijah Epling; aunts, one uncle, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, dear cousins; as well as wonderful friends and neighbors.
Family will receive friends Friday, December 13, from 4-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home Southwest Chapel, 3393 Broadway, in Grove City.
Service in celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2014, Visitation one hour prior to, Service at 11am at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, 4131 Clime Rd., Columbus, with reception to follow in church hall.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Stephen the Martyr Church.
