Janice Brandon, Centerburg, Ohio, died at home on May 19, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. She was born October 7, 1927 in Akron, Ohio, to the late Wilbert H. Jr. and Helen Baxendale Wise. Janice was raised by her grandparents Harold and Marie Mearig Baxendale.
Janice loved music and played several instruments. During her junior and senior years at Barberton High School she was the Drum Majorette and led the band in parades and football games.
She married Ira J. Brandon on August 12, 1947, and celebrated 52 1/2 years of marriage before he died in 2000. As a minister's wife, Janice lived in several cities in Ohio and one in Indiana. She loved being involved in the church and sang in the choir, played the piano and hosted missionaries and evangelists in their home. Ira and Janice lead Bible Studies in their home and Worthington Christian Village, a practice Janice continued after Ira died.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, two half-brothers, granddaughter Jennifer Mechtly and great granddaughter Bethany Goodykoontz.
She is survived by children Douglas (Sondra) Brandon Centerburg, OH; Sharen (Kerry) Rice, Columbus, OH; Karen (John) Mechtly, Warren, PA; Pam (Jim) Arrigo, Columbus, OH; and Jay Richard Brandon, Mt. Vernon, OH; 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Calling hours will be observed at the Milford Church of Christ, 3648 Johnstown Road, Centerburg, OH from 4p to 7p on Thursday, May 22. Additional calling hours will be 1 hour prior to the 11:00 am service on May 23, at the Westerville Christian Church, 417 E. College Avenue, Westerville, OH.
Services will be handled by the Newcomer Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel with burial in Blendon Central Cemetery, Westerville, OH.
