Listen to Obituary

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Jeanne E. Brigner (née Barnett), who left us on June 19, 2026, in Grove City, Ohio, just days before what would have been her 68th birthday. Born on June 24, 1958, in Columbus, Ohio, Jeanne’s life was a testament to kindness, devotion, and a joy for life’s simplest pleasures.

To those who knew her, Jeanne was a beacon of warmth—her presence a steady reassurance that bound friends and family together. Survived by a loving family, Jeanne leaves cherished memories with chidren, Emily (Bruce Herrick) Wise, Liberty (Justin Brown) Brigner, Joseph Wise, Stefanie (Patrick Monnett) Wise; grandchildren, Danielle Monnett, Paige Monnett, Paul Eldridge, Riley Herrick; as well as siblings, Joe Barnett, Jeff Barnett, Jackie Schwenk, and Jim Barnett. Jeanne was preceded in death by her beloved spouse of 30 years, Jamie Brigner, and her dear parents, Oscar Barnett and Eleanor Lawrenz. Jeanne found profound joy and fulfillment in the time spent with her grandchildren, family, and friends—all of whom she treasured deeply and with undivided attention.

Jeanne’s impact on the world is perhaps best seen in her long and inspiring career as a 2nd grade teacher at Westfall Elementary. There she touched generations of young minds with patience, enduring encouragement, and genuine care. It is no exaggeration to say that her classrooms were places where curiosity was nurtured and dreams took their first flight. Even after retiring from Westfall Elementary, Jeanne carried her nurturing spirit into her work as a part-time receptionist at Deer Creek Lodge, where her gentle manner and thoughtful presence continued to brighten the days of all she met. On top of these contributions to those around her, Jeanne was an adamant lover and supporter of environmental causes.

The currents of Jeanne’s enthusiasm for life flowed strongly beyond the workplace. She was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes football team, her cheering brightening every game day. Beach vacations delighted her, and she relished trips to West Virginia, savoring the opportunity to explore new sights and create lasting memories. Quiet afternoons spent feeding birds became moments of peace and reflection, while her love for sushi restaurants was only rivaled by her delight in sharing these meals with loved ones.

Above all, Jeanne cherished the bonds of family. Time spent surrounded by her children, grandchildren, siblings, and cousins brought her incomparable joy. She filled gatherings with warmth and laughter, and the love she gave will ripple forth through the generations.

All who wish to pay their respects and celebrate Jeanne’s life are invited to a visitation at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123, on June 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m. at the same location.
