Jeffrey Van Henderson, 69, of Grove City, passed away on July 8, 2025. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on December 1, 1955, to Osey (Baldwin) Henderson and the late Andrew Henderson. He married Lynda Tucker on April 10, 1993. They stood side by side in marriage for 32 years, embodying what it means to love unconditionally and fully.
Jeffrey graduated from Riverside High School in 1973. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee for a year. He tried his hand at many different jobs and careers, but eventually found his calling working in the field of drug and alcohol counseling. Jeffrey worked as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for the Department of Corrections at the Pickaway Correctional Institution for 25 years. He was a friend of Bill W. and dedicated his life to helping others. He had a calm, welcoming presence that made him one of the easiest people to talk to. He touched many lives and was the type of person you could call to vent to—someone who would listen without judgment.
When he wasn’t working, Jeffrey enjoyed many interests. Ever since he was a kid, he loved to read—especially thriller and mystery books. That love of reading followed him into his final days, where you couldn’t catch him without a book or his Kindle.
Jeffrey had a passion for jazz and soul music. Something about the calm, soothing, and unique style of this music paired well with the essence of who Jeffrey was: a calm, loving father, son, brother, and husband, who did whatever he could for his family and friends.
He showed his love through acts of service and by being the most dependable person you could count on in a time of need. He also showed his love by cooking for family gatherings and capturing special moments with his camera.
Jeffrey Henderson will be dearly missed but never forgotten. He lives on in the hearts of his wife, Lynda Henderson; mother, Osey Henderson; children, Quan Grey, Quinnetta Grey, Julian (Morgan) Henderson, and Jacob (Chan) Henderson; grandchildren, Leanna Drake, Quincy Grey, Bryan Smith, Jordann Grey, James Thurman, Julie Grey, Joslyn Grey, Hadassah Henderson, and Malachi Henderson; great-grandchildren, Kaylani Grey and Kaori Smith; siblings, Kevin Henderson, Helen (Craig) Henderson, and Valerie (Claude) Rill; and a host of family and close friends.
