Jerry was a man of few words with a strong moral fiber that he insisted
his kids uphold. He was known by many monikers including Son, Brother,
Jughead, Husband, Dad, Uncle, Grandpa, and "Gramma Nora". He lived a
full life, most of it with his devoted wife by his side. He worked and
played hard and had a "never give up" attitude which he deeply instilled
within everyone close to him.
He joined the Marines at a very young age. After the military, he became
a family man and was dedicated to providing for his wife and children.
Even though money was tight, love was abundant. He was a Cub Scout
leader for several years and he also spent numerous years helping
children by being a foster parent. He owned a few businesses and
eventually settled on a life on the road as truck driver and retired
from Holland Motor Freight.
He loved John Wayne movies. One of his favorite quotes was from "The
Shootist" - "I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, I won't be laid a
hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I require the same
from them."
Jerry enjoyed life. He loved road racing in SCCA, camping, hunting,
traveling, and the occasional casino slots. Above all else he loved
spending time with his family and friends. As we give him over to God,
we are well aware of the lasting impact he left on this world by
teaching his children, foster children and grandchildren morals and
values that surely have made God proud!
