Jerry Leonard Lippe (83) of Dublin, Ohio passed away peacefully on October 19.
He is survived by his wife, Christine, his son Ryan (Jennifer), his daughter Megan (Christopher) and his beloved grandchildren Chloe, Theo and Reese. Jerry was born May 19, 1942 in Cleveland, where he graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1960. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Miami University where he was a member of Delta Chi fraternity. Jerry then attended law school at The Ohio State University and became a member of the Ohio Bar in 1967. Jerry began his legal career as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Columbus City Attorney’s Office. He became a partner in the firm of Weiner and Lippe, and eventually became a solo practitioner specializing in criminal defense. People would ask Jerry how he could defend someone he knew was guilty. Jerry’s answer was always the same. It was judges and juries that determined guilt. His job was to protect his clients’ rights and hold the justice system accountable. That was his life mission.
Jerry was on the Board of Directions for Youth, was on the National Ski Patrol at Mad River Mountain, and was a Charity Newsie. He was a fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation and recognized for his 50 years of service to the legal profession. Jerry and his friends met every Friday for lunch for over 50 years, where they discussed politics, gossiped, and solved the world’s problems. He now joins Tim, Patrick, Kevin and Ron who preceded him in death. Jerry enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, Buckeye tailgate parties, and Browns games on Sunday afternoons. It is noted that the Browns won on October 19, the day Jerry passed.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Odes and Morry Lippe, and his brother Dr. Sheldon Lippe.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 5475 Brand Rd., Dublin, Ohio. Donations in Jerry’s memory can be made to Charity Newsies at www.charitynewsies.org.
