Jerry C. Vernon, 89, of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. He was born in Glouster, Ohio to Carson and Isabelle (Seiler) Vernon on August 10, 1927. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Pauline (Shields) Vernon.
Jerry is survived by his children, Linda (Dave) VanPelt, Bonnie (Nick) Smith, Connie (Jeff) Baker, Deanna (Joe) Marshall, Jeff (Susan) Hutchenson, Susan Taylor; grandchildren, Brian Reed, John (Sarah) Reed, Caroline (Wesley) Shults, Danielle Smith, Monica Smith, Erin Marshall, Clifford Morton; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Judy (Kenneth) Pierce; sister-in-law, Wanda (Elton) Defenbaugh and special granddaughter-in-law, Megan Reed. Jerry's loss will be felt by many other nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors too numerous to be named.
Jerry was in the Navy during WW II. He worked for the City of Grandview for 25 years before retiring.
He enjoyed bowling, puzzles and always hoped for a big winner on the scratch offs. He loved to watch the Cincinnati Reds, the Ohio State Buckeyes and Dale Earnhart, Jr. #88.
A visitation will be held from 10-12 on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio 43123. A funeral service will begin immediately after the visitation with burial to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Greenlawn Avenue, Columbus, Ohio.
