Joan Heselden, 88, passed away at home on September 13, 2018 after a brief illness. She was born December 7, 1929 in Ironton, OH.
Joan was a 1947 graduate of Ironton High School where she was homecoming queen her senior year.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold K. "Hessey"; parents, Ruth and Peter Heighton; twin sister, Jeanette Fairchild; sisters, Lillian and Mary; brothers, Clifford and Robert.
Joan is survived by her sons, Steven B. and Jeffrey K.; daughter, Jeanette (Brad) Barnes; grandchildren, Spencer, Jayd and Sarah all of Columbus.
Joan worked as an Ohio Bell Telephone Operator in Ironton where she met her husband, Harold. Harold worked for Western Electric of Columbus at the time installing telephone equipment. Harold, in a smooth move, rang Joan on the switchboard for a test call and asked her out on a date. Then they married in 1949, Joan moved to Columbus, and they started a family. Joan was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway Grove City.
Service is private and inurnment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, West Jefferson.
