Joan Frances Prior

Joan Frances Prior, 85, of Newark, passed away on January 7, 2026. She was born in Newark to the late John and Hulda (Ashcraft) Prior.

Those left to cherish memories of Joan include her brother Jerry Prior, and nieces Amanda (Prior) Grissinger, and Kim (Foust) Stout. As well as her beloved extended family; Mamie Long, Carole Long, Chrissy (Long) Pond, Fred Long, and Steve Long.

Joan enjoyed a variety of activities at her long-time place of residence at the Newark Rehabilitation Nursing Home, and formed many friendships during her time there. Some of her favorite hobbies were crossword puzzles, word search, solitaire, reading books, and bird watching. Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune were a couple of her favorite TV programs. In her younger days she loved bike rides and singing in the Choir at The St Francis DeSales Church.

Joan will be remembered for her remarkable memory, never forgetting a family member's birthday, and always asking how everyone was doing when we saw her. Visits with Joan, along with her presence at the table during holiday meals, will be greatly missed.
