Joan Shindle

Joan (Chaffin) Shindle, 85, of Powell, OH went to her heavenly home on February 7, 2016 at Willow Brook in Delaware Run. Joan was born on February 4, 1931 to Lemuel John and Grace (Snider) Chaffin in Columbus, OH.
She graduated from North High School and attended Otterbein College. She was later employed by Worthington School System for 25 years. Joan married Rex Shindle on May 13, 1950 and celebrated 64 years of wedded devotion prior to his 2014 death from leukemia. Joan was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word, always serving her family's needs and tireless in her efforts to help others. She was a long-standing member of First Church of the Nazarene in Columbus, OH and in later years she attended Grace Polaris Church.
Joan is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rex; her parents; four brothers, Paul, Frank, Gilbert and Ivan; and three sisters, Marie, Edna and Ruth.
She is survived by her children, Karan (Mark) Collins of Columbus, OH, Martin (Cynthia) Shindle of Westerville, OH and Brian (Judith) Shindle of Delaware, OH. Blessed by Mums' love are seven grandchildren, Adam (Karen) Collins, Aaron (Jamie) Collins, Andrew (Lesley) Shindle, Timothy (Rachel) Shindle, Tiffany (Mike) Edwards, Chauncey (Scot) Cianci and Lindsay (Chris) Suster. Left to cherish their fond memories with Mums are fifteen great-grandchildren, Liam, Michaela, and Tessa Collins; Caleb and Abby Collins; Maddie, Michael and Graysen Shindle; Isaac, Grace and Eve Edwards; Jacob Cherry, Brooklyn and Connor Cianci; and Rosemary Suster. Also remaining, a sister, Edythe Myers, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Words cannot express the family's deepest gratitude for the extraordinary care lovingly bestowed on Joan while a Willow Brook resident at Delaware Run Memory Care.
A Memorial Celebration is scheduled at Grace Polaris Church, 8225 Worthington-Galena Rd, Westerville, OH 43081 at 3:00pm on Saturday, February 13, 2016 with family receiving guests one hour prior at 2:00pm. Pastor Jim Custer officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Newcomer Funeral Home. Private burial service at Kingwood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joan's memory to Right Start Ministries, P.O. Box 437, Worthington, OH 43085.
