It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joel Richard Gent, who left this world on March 27, 2026, in Mt. Gillead. Born on October 18, 1952, in Columbus, Joel lived a life defined by love, devotion, and cherished family bonds.
Joel’s journey began in Columbus, where he grew up surrounded by the care and strength of his parents, John and Maude (May) Gent Jr., who have since passed but whose legacy lived on through their son. He graduated from North High School, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life filled with meaningful relationships and treasured moments.
A devoted husband to his wife Karen Gent, Joel was the proud father of two sons, Joel (Mollie) Gent II and Jason Gent. His joy expanded further with the arrival of his beloved grandchildren: Joel Gent III, Jaxon Gent, Jude Gent, and Allison Gent (O'Ross), sister Nina (Marshall) Satterfield, along with many other family members and friends, shared in the love and joy that Joel so generously gave. Their lives were enriched by his presence, and his absence leaves a profound emptiness.. Throughout his life, Joel found immense happiness in spending time with his family, creating memories that will forever be etched in their hearts.
Joel’s warm and playful spirit was evident in his fondness for playing Xbox and chess with his grandchildren—simple acts that spoke volumes of his deep affection and commitment to nurturing those bonds. These moments of connection were among his greatest treasures, alongside his love for reading and the quiet pleasures of a thoughtful mind.
The Gent family also remembers Michael Satterfield, their nephew, who preceded Joel in death. Though their family has faced its share of loss, Joel’s legacy as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend remains a beacon of enduring warmth and strength.
Joel Richard Gent’s life was a testament to the power of love and family—a man whose proudest accomplishments were not measured by worldly success but by the joy and connection of his children and grandchildren. His memory will forever dwell in the hearts of those who knew him, a gentle reminder of a life well lived and a love deeply felt.
In mourning yet celebrating Joel’s life, we hold tight to the beautiful moments he gave us, living on in the stories told, the games played, the books shared, and the family ties strengthened through his example. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
