Joey Mason, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, at Doctor's West Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on April 28, 1954, in Columbus, where he lived a life rich with loyalty, love, and friendship.
Joey’s memory will be cherished forever by his devoted wife of 48 years, Janet L. (Prince) Mason, who stood by his side through life’s many joyful seasons and shared memorable beach vacations together. Their partnership was an enduring source of strength and happiness for both of them. Joey’s spirit lives on in his children, Heather (Doug) Nelson and Joseph Mason, whose lives have been shaped by his steadfast guidance and kindness. His legacy continues as a loving grandfather to Angelina Mason, Olivia Mason, Kylie Nelson, and Mason Nelson, and a cherished uncle to several nieces and nephews, all of whom knew him as a source of unwavering support and delightful company.
He is mourned by his brother, Mike (Erin) Smith, and his sister, Angela Foraker, who recall countless shared memories from their childhood in Columbus, as well as his beloved furry companion Maggie May. Joey was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth J. Mason; his mother, Mary (Gjurecech) Mason-Smith; and his brothers, Mike Mason and Kenny Mason. Their memories, like his, remain etched in the hearts of all who loved them.
Throughout his life, Joey was known for his dedication both at home and at work. He served for many years as a Material Handler at Pactiv, where his strong work ethic and friendship left a mark on colleagues and friends alike. Outside of work, Joey eagerly embraced all that life had to offer. Whether he was spending time with family and friends at the casino, enjoying the thrill of a golf game or a soccer match, cruising through town in his cherished Corvette, or cheering passionately for the Las Vegas Raiders, Joey brought warmth and infectious enthusiasm to every gathering. Above all, those who loved him will remember moments of laughter, heartfelt conversations, and the comfort of simply being in his company.
