John L. Albert, age 83, pass away on September 28, 2025 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. John was born to John S. and Helen I. Decker Albert in Akron, Ohio in 1942. He graduated from Green High School in 1962.
John attended Ohio University where he received his BSED in 1966 and his MS in 1968. He also met his wife, Sarah L. Mosser, at Ohio University. John and Sarah were married in 1965. John worked at Parkersburg Catholic High School, St. Joseph's Prep Seminary, Bloom-Carroll High School, Licking Valley High School, and Lancaster City Schools where he finished his teaching career in 2003.
John and Sarah retired to Harbor Island, SC in 2005.There John completed the SC Lowcountry Mater Naturalist Course. He became involved in hosting SCDNR, Costal Explorations, Audubon, and other educational programs on Harbor Island. He was a program presenter for Osher Lifelong Learning as well as for several of the many bird clubs in the area. John was known for his bird photography. He assisted Fripp Audubon in establishing the Beaufort Barrier Islands Important Bird Area in 2009 and the Global Important Bird Area in 2015. John wrote and distributed the monthly pamphlet "Harbor Island Naturally." He served on both the Harbor Island and Harbor Key Owners' Boards and the Fripp Audubon Board. Covid brought them back to Ohio to be closer to family in 2021.
John is survived by his wife Sarah; son John M. (Tara) Albert; daughter Susan L. (Andrew Beogher) Albert; granddaughters Sara R. Albert and Bryn L. Beougher; and step-grandchildren Kelly Miller and Kenneth Miller. John will be cremated and at his request there will be no services. Raise a glass in remembrance of him!
