John Frederick Arthur 73, of Mechanicsburg passed away Friday June 1st surrounded by family after complications from a stroke he suffered in December.
He was born to Robert and Helen Arthur October 12, 1944 in Urbana, Ohio. John was a graduate of Triad High School and a veteran serving from 1964 to 1968 in the United States Navy. He worked for International in Springfield before retiring to hobby farming. He raised cattle and chickens, baled hay and worked on his equipment. John was a member of the fraternal order of the Eagles and the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars). He was a family man and spent most of his free time with his children and grandchildren.
John enjoyed the simple life, observing nature and his surroundings even if he was holding up traffic. John Arthur never met a stranger and had friends wherever he went. His quirky sense of humor could always make people laugh. John was a generous man and gave whatever he could without asking anything in return.
John is survived by his children Katherine (Steve) Collier, John (Jody) Arthur and Michele (Brian) Violet. His Grandchildren Steven (Brook) Collier, Jessika (Matthew) Kandel, Brian Violet, Juslynn Stockwell, Chelsey Stockwell, Aerriel Collier and Darren Collier. One Great Grandchild Cole Collier. Siblings David (Phyllis) Arthur, Roberta (Robert) Timmons, Steve Arthur and Mary (Jim) Blanton. As well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Helen Arthur, siblings, Mike Arthur, Chris Arthur, Tom (Bernice) Arthur and Jerry Arthur. His sister-in-law Bonnie Arthur, close friend and cousin Marie Gray and the mother of his children Bettie Allsup.
They say that love is stronger than death, but our love could not keep you here. Until we meet again.
A Memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 am at Saint Michael's Catholic Church 40 Walnut Street Mechanicsburg.
