John Austin, Sr.

John William Austin age 82, passed away August 4, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, surrounded by his children.
John was born January 15, 1934 in Rome, Georgia. In 1954, he married Dorothy Covington of Centre, AL and in 1956 moved to Ohio and started working at Capital Manufacturing.
John and Dorothy purchased their first house in Urbancrest, Ohio and started a business, Austin Trucking Service. Together, they raised 7 wonderful children.
John was a member of The Freemasons and Attended the Liberty Hill Baptist Church where he volunteered as a nurse for 20 years. John knew quite a few people in his life, very seldom did he meet a stranger. He was always willing to help you out even at his own expense.
Preceded in death by his father and mother, Theodore and Carrie Mae Austin; brothers, Theodore Jr. and Earnest Austin; sisters, Mary Deloris Morehead and Alma Washington.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy; children, Robert Jones of Rome, GA, Josie Bowers of Columbus, OH, Dorothy Kemper of Galloway, OH, John Jr., Thomas, Carlton, Lewis, Derrick Austin of Columbus OH. Also his 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Richard Austin of Rome, GA, Eugene Austin of Columbus, OH; sisters, Annie Birdsong of Columbus, OH, Vera Mathis of Rome, GA.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 10 am - 12 pm, at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH.
Funeral Service will be held immediately following visitation at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at a later date in Macedonia Cemetery, Rome, GA.
