John David Lewis, affectionately known by many as John John, JD, or Lewi, passed away unexpectedly after a tragic car accident, on March 26, 2026, at Mount Carmel - East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Born on August 27, 1975, in Columbus, John’s life was marked by dedication, warmth, and a profound love for family, friends, and his community.
John’s skilled hands crafted more than just wood; they built bridges of kindness and camaraderie throughout his lifetime. As a proud member of the Local Carpenter's Union 200, he honed his trade as a journeyman at Turner Construction, where his commitment and craftsmanship earned the respect of colleagues. His passion for woodworking extended beyond his profession; it was a cherished pastime where creativity and patience flourished.
Those close to John knew him as a man who deeply appreciated the simple joys of life. He found great happiness in time spent with his family and especially in the loyal companionship of his beloved dog, Jesse. A devoted sports enthusiast, he held a special place in his heart for The Ohio State Buckeyes football team, celebrating their victories and sharing the spirit of the game.
John’s love for the outdoors was evident in his joyful gardening and planting, where he nurtured life with the same care he showed all aspects of his world. When not at work, he delighted in cooking and grilling, bringing warmth and flavor to family gatherings and everyday meals alike.
He is survived by his mother, RuthAnn Lewis; his sister, Laura (John) Ray; his brother, Kevin (Bee) Nolan; his nieces, Amanda Ray and Abby Ray; his nephew, Alec Ray; and his special aunts and uncles, Ronnie (Roberta) Collins, and Michelle Willis. Each of them, and all who knew John, carry forward his legacy of love, kindness, and strong family bonds.
John is preceded in death by his father, John Lewis; grandfather, Eldon Collins; grandmothers, Jean Collins and Doris Farmer; and uncles Jack Lewis, Jerome Lewis, and Joe Lewis, whose memories live on alongside his.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on April 18, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio 43123.. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Tim Womack, and refreshments and further fellowship will follow until 4:00 PM.
John David Lewis’s legacy is one of skill, warmth, and devotion. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his spirit endures in every piece of wood he shaped, every garden he tended, and every heartfelt moment shared. May his memory be a blessing to all who had the honor to know him.
