John F. Barnes, passed away December 16, 2013. He was born on December 13, 1924 in Glens Falls, NY. He is preceded in death by his parents John Erwin Barnes and Mary (Hoag) Barnes and brothers, Joseph and George.
He moved to Hillsboro, OH in 1946 to work for a veterinarian before attending The Ohio State University the following year. He went to work for the Farm Bureau Insurance Co. (now Nationwide Insurance) in 1948 where he met his wife to be, Shirley Borror. They married in 1950. He spent the rest of his working years in management positions and retired in 1987 as administrator for the Ohio Operating Engineers Fringe Benefits programs after 20 years of service. John was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, a past president of the Grove City Kiwanis Club, and enjoyed reading for Voice Corp, a service for the blind.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, to whom he was married for 63 years, loving children, Jay (Dawn) Barnes, Leslie (Keith) Pritchard, Karen Leigh (Barnes), five grandchildren, Jason Pritchard, Megan (Jonathan) Spengler, Emily (Joe) Huber, Hannah (Kristin) Botkin-Doty, Gabriel Botkin, great-granddaughter, Amelia Spengler, and several beloved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to St. John's Lutheran Church Children's ministries.
Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, Thursday, December 19, 2013 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3220 Columbus Street, Grove City, OH. A Celebration of Life conducted by Pastor Don Allman will be held at 11am, Friday, December 20, 2013 at the church.
