John Robert Dukes, “Jack” age 95, died peacefully in Dublin, Ohio, on Saturday, December 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
As an inquisitive young man, Jack’s interests included building and flying model airplanes, developing a commercial photography business, and tinkering with chemistry and electronics. Bowling Green State University introduced him to ROTC. In 1954, Jack earned a Liberal Arts degree from BGSU. Also in 1954, he earned BS degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from Ohio State University. In 1971, Jack received his MBA from OSU.
In the spring of 1951, Jack received his military officer’s commission through ROTC as 2nd Lieutenant in Field Artillery. He was called to active duty 1953-1956 serving at Fort Carson, Colorado Springs. In August 1953, Jack married the love of his life Katherine (Kay) Schaller. After 64 years of marriage, Kay passed away in April 2017.
Jack’s career spanned electrical engineering to being a physicist and ultimately becoming Director of Nucleonics and Radiological Operations at Asea Brown Boveri. He assisted the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission and Nuclear Regulatory Commission to establish Federal Safety Rules & Regulations. His worldwide network of Radiation Safety Officers involved travel to 36 countries. He chaired the U.S. National Safety Standards and the International Committee in Geneva, Switzerland. Jack retired from ABB in June 1996 after 40 years of service.
Following his retirement, Jack published the newsletter, GEEZERGRAMS, for 300+ former employees of AAB, family, and friends. This periodic newsletter kept his readers up to date on changing technology including safety protocol for personal computer communication.
Jack will be remembered for his uncanny ability to organize and process data, which led him to be the ultimate problem solver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Dukes; and grandson Clayton Morgan.
Jack Dukes is survived by his daughter, Susie McClain (Dennis), Kansas City, Missouri; and son, David Dukes (Kathy), of Powell, Ohio; and grandsons Alec and Andrew of Powell, Ohio.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Northwest Chapel with the funeral service to follow. Jack will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Jack’s love and devotion to his wife, Kay, who passed away from Alzheimer’s disease.
