Jonah Dillard Mounts, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, departed this world peacefully on May 10, 2026, at the age of 87. He was enveloped in the comforting care of Dublin Glen memory care, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and an enduring spirit of generosity. Born on February 14, 1939, in the small, close-knit town of War Eagle, West Virginia, Jonah was the beloved son of the late Cleveland and Elizabeth Mounts. Jonah's formative years were spent in War Eagle, where he developed a love for the simple joys of life, a trait that he carried throughout his years. After graduating from Marion Franklin High School in 1957—proudly part of its first full graduating class—Jonah began his working life as a butcher, first at Albers Great Southern and later at Food World on Hudson Ave. His dedication and strong work ethic were evident in all that he did, but it was his vibrant personality and quick wit that truly set him apart. On August 20, 1961, Jonah married the love of his life, Betty June Gray. Together, they crafted a beautiful life over 64 years of marriage, raising two children, Joni and Kevin, who were the pride and joy of their lives. Their home was a sanctuary filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Jonah and Betty's partnership was a testament to enduring love, and their devotion to one another was an inspiration to all who knew them. Jonah's family was his world, and he was a devoted grandfather to Chase Penwell, Kristin Frye, Emily Crumley, Noah Mounts, and Cooper Mounts, and a doting great-grandfather to Rollie, Cayson, and Fielder Frye. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apples of his eye, and he took immense joy in their accomplishments and happiness. A man of faith, Jonah was an active and dedicated member of both the Hilliard Church of Christ and Cherry Creek Church of Christ for many years. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he shared it generously with those around him, always ready with a comforting word or a light-hearted joke to lift spirits. Jonah had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. He never met a stranger, and his kindness and generosity touched countless lives. Whether feeding the birds and squirrels from his back porch swing, tending to his garden with a green thumb, or enjoying a motorcycle ride with his son, Jonah lived life with a zest and enthusiasm that was infectious. He was predeceased by his parents, Cleveland and Elizabeth Mounts, and his siblings, Dexter, Therman, Roland, and Troy Mounts, as well as Joann Miller and Barbara Gray. Jonah's legacy will continue to thrive in the hearts of his surviving family: his beloved wife Betty June, his children Joni and Chuck Penwell, and Kevin and Tonya Mounts, along with his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A service to honor Jonah's remarkable life will be held on May 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Fernwood Cemetery, 460 Rowe Rd, Lockbourne, Ohio 43137. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Dublin Glen for their compassion, thoughtfulness, kindness, and patience during Jonah's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jonah's memory to a charity of your choice, as a tribute to a man who gave so much to others. Jonah Dillard Mounts will be remembered for his quick smile, his loving heart, and his unwavering ability to make the world a better place for those fortunate enough to know him.
