Joseph Nnamdi Ohakim, age 29, also known as Big Joe, was ushered into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, September 30th 2020. He was born to Maxwell Emeka Ohakim and Michelle Maria (McBee) Ohakim on April 26th 1991 in Columbus, Ohio. Joseph came into the world fighting as he had to have open heart surgery just a few months after his birth. God proved Joseph to be a true miracle as he grew healthy and strong and had no other issues.
He was a Westerville Central High School graduate in the Class of 2009. He continued his education at Kent State University and later transferred to Columbus State Community College, where he discovered his love of Nursing. In 2018 he completed and earned his BSN in Nursing at Mount Carmel College of Nursing.
Joe worked at Mount Carmel West as a PCA while he completed his degree; he gained many friends and valuable experiences and skills that he later used as a nurse. When Joe graduated from nursing school he had many offers to jump start his nursing career. After much deliberation he decided to pursue a career at the OSU James Cancer Hospital where he became a part of the J 19 crew.
Joe was a kind person, a gentle giant, and the kind of guy that would offer words of encouragement or a shoulder to cry on. Joe showered his family with love, he was always there for them, and he made sure that he helped them in anyway he could. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend. Joseph will be sorely missed by so many.
We are grateful for the impact he made on this world and his legacy will live on. He is survived by his loving parents: Maxwell and Michelle Ohakim, sisters: Janvier and Maxine, brother Sharif, nieces Catori and Zahara, nephew Mekhi, the love of his life Megan and a host of aunties, uncles, cousins, and friends .
We are confident that Joseph heard the perfect words "well done, good and faithful servant"
