Worthington
Joe was born in Hythe, a small village on the edge of the New Forest in Southern England . He came to Columbus, Ohio when he was 12. He enjoyed his school days at McCord Middle School and Worthington Kilbourne High School, and being part of the Youth at Christian Community Church. At High School his life really revolved around Marching Band and he made many friends. He graduated from WKHS in 1999 and moved on to McGill University in Montreal. Again he managed to find wonderful friends, and he learned to ice skate and indulge his love of skiing. He also managed to graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering. On returning to Columbus, he worked for Xigent Automation Systems, SEA Ltd and latterly Spillman Company. He satisfied his love of skiing by working at Mad River, where he became a ski and snowboard instructor on the weekends. His passion for ice hockey grew, and prior to Covid he played for several teams. He also indulged his love of cars and motor cycles and he became something of a collector – some of them even driveable!
He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 14, and so for all his adult life he was coping with a chronic health condition. A more recent diagnosis of epilepsy resulted in more health concerns and we are thankful that he received support and encouragement from his many friends. His death was sudden and unexpected and he will be missed by his friends and family alike.
We invite all those who knew him to come and celebrate his life at Christian Community Church, 5586 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio, 43235 on Tuesday 27 May at 2:30pm
