Karl R. Garrabrant Jr. passed away on December 11, 2019 at St. Ann's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 69 after a hard-fought battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis with both of his daughters and his grand-daughter by his side.
Karl is survived by his wife, Charline; daughters, Rebekah Garrabrant and Rachael (Joe) Maxwell; grandchildren, Christian Blankenship, Kaitlynn O'Keefe, Clarissa Garrabrant, and Kyle Maxwell; great-grandchildren, Christian Jr., Payton, and Colten Blankenship; step-children and their families, Paul (Shelly) Schwartz and children Nick, Charity, and Tyler, Charles Schwartz and children Walter and Genevieve, Joellen Randazzio, and Danielle (Jason) Wright and children Nathan, and Cody, and 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Catherine (Kenny) Gibbs, John (Mary), Margaret (Kevin) Power, Cheryl (Dan) Wingett, Nancy (John) Santo and Geneva (Steve) Erb; and many nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by his father, Karl R. Sr.; mother, Florence; and step-mother, Beulah.
Karl spent many years volunteering his time in various ways. In the early 1970's was part of the early start of the Clintonville Community Resource Center and helped create a suicide prevention help line and teen intervention group called No Walls. He also spent a lot of time volunteering with the American Red Cross First Aid Service Corps. He then was a volunteer EMT, which later led to his appointment as Chief of the Minerva Park Fire Department. In the 1980's, he was the recipient of both the Jaycees Young Man of the Year Award and the Mayor's Volunteer of the Year Award. Through these volunteer opportunities, he developed friendships with many people that he cherished. His family is proud of the dedication that he had to helping others over the years.
All family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate on Sunday, December 15th 2-5 and Monday, December 16th 4-6 for visitation, with a service immediately following on Monday 6pm at Newcomer Northeast Chapel 3047 E. Dublin Granville Road. His ashes will be buried next to his parents at Resurrection Cemetery at later date, where he will rest peacefully.
