Katherine JoAnn Gaskill

Katherine "Joann" Gaskill, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, in Newark, Ohio. Born on May 29, 1938, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, she lived a long and full life marked by devotion to her family and a love for being a beautician and baking.

Joann was the beloved daughter of Lela and John Morris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Gaskill Sr., as well as her brother Charles Morris and sister Jean Morris. Her memory will be cherished by her sons Ron Gaskill of Walkertown, NC; Gary Carpenter of Clemmons, NC; Mike Carpenter and his wife Janet of Kernersville, NC; Randy Carpenter and his wife Kim of Dayton, OH; Brian Carpenter of Colonial Heights, VA; and Jim Gaskill and his wife Becky of Westerville, OH. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought joy to her life.

Joann is also remembered fondly by her siblings: Sonny Morris and his wife Chrissie of Palms Spring, CA; Bob Morris of Parkersburg, WV; Bill Morris of Parkersburg, WV; Butch Morris and his wife Annette of Parkersburg, WV; Roger Morris and his wife Sandy of Parkersburg, WV; Janet Rader of Parkersburg, WV; Linda White of Parkersburg, WV; and Sharon Moore and her husband Joe of Williamstown, WV. Her large extended family was a source of pride and comfort throughout her life.

Known for her warm heart and generous spirit, Joann had a passion for painting ceramics—a hobby that allowed her to express herself artistically. She also found great joy in baking cakes and making peanut butter fudge, treats that became treasured traditions among those who knew her. Her kitchen was often filled with the sweet aromas of homemade confections prepared with love.

Above all else, Joann loved her family deeply. She was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer support whenever it was needed. Her unwavering dedication to those she cared about left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

A Graveside Service will be held on July 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery & Mausoleums 8135 North Dixie Drive.
