It is with a heavy heart but also with deep gratitude for the life of our beloved Katie Mulholland. Katie was more than a sister, an aunt, and a friend — she was a light that shone brightly in our family and in the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born into a lively household as the third of seven children and the second oldest daughter, Katie had a special way of standing out — not because she sought attention, but because of the warmth and strength she carried within her. From a young age, she embraced her role as a sister and later as an aunt, guiding, supporting, and loving each of us with a rare kind of devotion.
Katie had a remarkable sense of style. Fashion was her language — a way she expressed her vibrant personality. Whether it was a new pair of shoes, a perfectly chosen outfit, or a touch of lipstick before heading out into the Florida sun, she found joy in looking and feeling her best.
Life was not always easy for Katie. She faced trials that might have broken a lesser spirit — including a battle with alcoholism that she faced with courage and ultimately overcame. For over 30 years, she lived in sobriety, a testament to her strength, resilience, and determination to live fully and honestly.
Though she was not able to have children of her own, Katie poured her love into her thirteen nieces and nephews, creating memories that will be cherished forever — weekend trips, special outings, and moments of laughter and connection that made each of them feel uniquely loved.
Katie knew hardship — surviving a horrific head-on crash that would have stopped many in their tracks. Yet, she emerged with a renewed sense of life’s preciousness. She loved the sun, the sand, and the warmth of Florida, where she spent many hours soaking in the sunshine, living in the moment.
Katie was an avid OSU and Cleveland browns fan.
As we say goodbye, we remember Katie as someone who taught us that life’s beauty often lies not in perfection, but in perseverance — in showing up with love, even when life gets hard; in laughing with family; in sharing weekends with nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews ; in enjoying a sunny afternoon by the water.
Her legacy is one of resilience, generosity, and radiant spirit. Though our hearts ache with her loss, we are comforted knowing that her light lives on — in each of us, in every memory, and in the love she so freely gave.
Rest now, dear Katie. Your journey has been full, your battles fought bravely, and your love will continue to ripple through our lives for years to come.
