Kenton Foster Butcher, born on August 5, 1949 in Martin County, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 27, 2026 at the age of 77.

Kenton is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anne; his children, Wade (Laura) and daughter Megan Butcher; former daughter in law, Michelle Butcher; grandchildren, Hunter, Lea, Deven and Dakota; sister, Carol Blankenship, brother, Dwight David (Sharon) Butcher; sisters in law, Cheryl Butcher and Sue Butcher; brother in law, Steve Melvin; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Kenton was preceded in death by his son, Ryan David Butcher; parents Thurmond and Ora (Cline), siblings, Betty (John) Frank, Doris (James) Collins, Helen (Richard) Sly, Donna (Grady) Watson, CT Butcher, Joe Butcher, Marsha Melvin; brother in law, Joe Blankenship.

Kenton served in the United States Air Force after graduating from Central High in Columbus, Ohio in 1969. He retired after many years from Sears as a warehouse manager, then working in the mail room for the Ohio Supreme Court.

He enjoyed fishing with his family, writing poetry, playing his guitar, singing in the church choir, camping, vacations to Myrtle Beach with his family, The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was an expert grill master, and made the best sausage gravy. He loved his dogs, Lucy, Paige, Sally and Cooper. He was a jokester, and special names for everyone. He loved watching old westerns, taking trips to the zoo, taking walks at Battelle Darby Park with his dogs, going to the gym, where he won weight lifting awards, and most of all, spending time with his family.

Family will welcome friends and loved ones on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 10am to 11am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 55 Pasadena Avenue, Columbus, Ohio. A memorial service will begin at 11am at the church. A meal will follow after the service.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations make to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Compassus Hospice.
