Larry Wayne Gardner, 84, of Columbus, Ohio, peacefully passed away on November 1, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 28, 1942, in Athens, Ohio, Larry lived a life marked by devotion to his country, deep love for his family, and a lasting enthusiasm for the railroad world he admired so much. He was a longtime railroad and train enthusiast, and that interest remained an important part of his life through the years.

Larry proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967. After his active duty service, he continued in the Army Reserves until 1995, completing a 20-year military career. During his working years, he was employed on the railroad, where he was responsible for the inspection of railcars prior to shipment. His service and his work reflected the care, discipline, and steady commitment that shaped his life.

On August 12, 1966, Larry married the love of his life, Sandra (Ferguson) Gardner. Together they shared 60 years of blissful marriage, building a life centered on love, loyalty, and family. In his free time, Larry loved spending time with his family, who were truly his pride and joy. He also had a special love for his dogs, especially his Olie boy, who held a cherished place in his heart. He was also a faithful member of St. Josephine Bakhita Catholic Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Gardner; his daughter, Angela (Nate) Squibb; and his grandchildren, Nathan Squibb, Abigail Squibb, and Kayla Squibb. The love he gave to his family and the memories they shared with him will remain a lasting gift in their lives.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Gardner; his mother, Irean Gardner; and his brother, Ken Locke.

Larry will be remembered with love for his faithful service, his dedication to his work, his enjoyment of trains and railroads, and above all for the love he gave so freely to his family. His life was a blessing, and his memory will be treasured by those who knew and loved him.
