Louise Hampton

November 19, 1932 — January 22, 2019

Doris Louise Hampton was born November 19, 1932 in Holland, Texas to Joseph and Ruby Karl. She married Martin Riley Hampton on August 6, 1954. Louise is survived by her sister Linda Jo Donley, her two children, daughter Rae Beth Mooring (husband Walter), and son Martin Hampton (wife Linda). She had 5 grandchildren, Jessica (Mooring) Mather, Bill Mooring, Ben Mooring, Amy (Hampton) Scott (husband Steve) and Riley Hampton (wife Abigail); and 10 great-grandchildren.

Louise graduated from Holland High School in 1948 and Durham Business School in 1950. She was retired from Sherwin-Williams (formerly DeSoto) where she worked over 20 years as an accountant at their Columbus headquarters. Louise was also an Avon sales representative for over 40 years.

Louise raised her family while moving between Texas, Ohio, Iowa and Illinois. Once settled in Reynoldsburg, she attended the Reynoldsburg Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and served in the women's ministry for many years.

Louise loved her family and holidays. She had decorations for every holiday and celebrated them all. Whether it was corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day, bobbing for apples at a Halloween party which featured orange and black sandwiches, or observing her many Christmas Eve traditions, she didn't miss a chance to celebrate life with her family and friends. Everyone here probably attended one of her Christmas Eve open houses which included the best relish trays and treats around. And let's not forget the ice cream snowballs while singing silent night.

Louise had a soft-spot for teens that were in need of a home and a second chance in life. It was not out of the ordinary for Louise to have teenage girls who were having trouble at home staying at her house while she supplied them room and board. Her heart was the size of Texas and she never hesitated to help others in need and certainly never wanted any recognition for her deeds.

Putting others before herself was just Louise's way of life. However, she also was very much her own person. She could laugh at herself while also making others laugh. She had a laugh that was so contagious and everyone that spent any time with her always had fun. Unless of course you were playing against her in Euchre. She was a very good card player and played to win.

Louise's smile, big heart and love of her family will be missed greatly.

A memorial service celebrating Louise's life will be held at Reynoldsburg Baptist Church, 887 Rosehill Rd., Reynoldsburg, Ohio on Saturday, January 26th at noon.
