Mark Lichtensteiger was a dedicated husband, a considerate son, and a sympathetic brother. A man who was full of creativity and laughter, he always stood up for those who deserved it. He was tough until the very end, and when that time came, those who loved him were tough for him.
Mark was released from his illness on July 3, 2025.
Mark’s life is honored and celebrated by his wife, Vanessa; his parents Michael and Ruth; his brothers Brian and Chris, and by many, many friends new and old, notably those closest the past year: Ian, Andrew and Angie. All are mourning his passing with heavy hearts.
Mark met Vanessa in 1999 at Hilliard Davidson High School and developed a relationship in 2006. They were married in May of 2020. They spent their years together enjoying spicy food while watching cartoons, playing video games, and being proud cat parents to Ushie and Sava.
In his memory, Mark would challenge you to live your dreams, be creative in any way possible, write stories, listen to your favorite music, play games with your friends, and enjoy the company of a cat. He would quickly commit to help a friend in need.
To donate to a cause that Mark held dear to this heart, please support the Columbus Humane Society.
As a special tribute to Mark’s memory, a portion of his ashes will be encapsulated and sent into Earth’s orbit from Cape Canaveral, FL, in early 2026. The launch will be attended by friends and family. Mark will literally be in the sky looking over us for several years until gravity calls him back, and he will fall as a shooting star. He would want us to always look forward and keep dreaming.
