Marsha L. Pifer peacefully went to be with our Lord on May 2, 2025, at the age of 80. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister.
Marsha was born on October 31,1944 in Columbus, Ohio. She grew up in Linden and later Minerva Park, with her parents, two sisters, and many other family members nearby. Marsha graduated in 1962 from Westerville High School, where she accompanied the band as a majorette. After high school until she retired in 1999, Marsha worked in various secretarial positions at several companies including Nationwide Insurance, Wendy’s Corporate Headquarters and the American Cancer Society.
Marsha married Jim on June 6, 1964, and they shared this bond for 60 years. They had one daughter, Kelly. Marsha loved spending time with her family, and her happiness during these times was evidenced by her smile and laughter. Marsha was a very social person and enjoyed chatting with her neighbors and friends. She and Jim also liked to travel, spending their winters in warmer places like Gulf Shores, Alabama, Lake Cumberland, Kentucky, and Sebring, Florida.
Marsha suffered with dementia over the last decade. It is a cruel disease that robbed her of her socialization and mobility and made her extra feisty. She still loved to chat though, even when the words did not make sense. When she was feeling particularly agitated, music brought comfort, especially listening to Christian radio and singing rounds of “You are My Sunshine” with the residents in her memory care unit at Brookdale Senior Living.
Marsha is survived by her daughter Kelly (Ken) Stoll, grandchildren Jordan and Christopher Stoll, and sisters Carol Hochmuth and Charlene Barsky. She was predeceased in death by her husband, James K. Pifer, parents Charles L. and Kathryn B. Vermillion, sister Janet F. Vermillion, brothers-in-law David L. Hochmuth Sr., and LTC Connie A. Barsky, and nephew David L. Hochmuth, Jr.
