Marshall Lynn Evaline, affectionately known as "Marty," passed away peacefully at his residence on May 10, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on April 6, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, Marty lived a life marked by dedication, passion, and profound love for his family and friends.
A proud veteran, Marty honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, exemplifying his commitment to his country with courage and integrity. Following his military service, Marty would go on to work in Sanitation and eventually retire in Solid Waste Management, with the City of Columbus after 33 years. Beyond these dedicated acts of service to his country and community, he was a man of many interests and pursuits that brought joy to his life and those around him. An avid hunter and fisherman, Marty cherished the quiet moments spent in nature, relishing the outdoor experiences that grounded him. He also enjoyed lively trips to the casino, where his enthusiasm was matched only by his luck.
Marty was a devoted fan of sports, passionately supporting the Cleveland Browns, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Philadelphia Phillies. His spirited allegiance to these teams was a reflection of his Ohio roots and the camaraderie he found in the world of sports.
Family and faith was at the heart of Marty's life. A devoted follower of Christ, Marty cherised his time with his church community on Sunday, and found great peace in his readings of his Daily Bread. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sharon (Reed) Evaline; his son, Marty (Holly) Evaline; and his daughters, Amy (Brant) Baker and Lori (Don) Alderman. He took immense pride in his grandchildren—Donny (Morgan) Alderman, Emaleigh (Daniel) Esbenshade, Ashley (Evan) Gallion, Ethan Evaline, Caden Evaline, Quentin (Kaitlyn) Baker, and Amanda Baker—and was delighted to witness the growth of his great-grandsons, Lewis and Graham Alderman. Marty also leaves behind his brother, Earl (Mary) Evaline Jr., and half-sister, Melodie Marquiss, as well as a special cousin, Rita (Jim) Miller. His circle of close friends, including Jerry (June) Dodd, Steve (Rosalyn) Mitchell, Ted (Pat) Burrell, and Dave (Teri) Brown, along with several nieces and nephews, who all hold fond memories of their time with him.
Marty was predeceased by his parents, Earl Evaline and Vera Bolin, as well as his step-mother, Marge Evaline.
The community is invited to honor and celebrate Marty's life through a gathering of family and friends held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest; located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio. This will be followed immediately by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. The final farewell will take place with graveside services at Sunset Cemetery (6959 W Broad St, Galloway, Ohio), where military honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force and members of the American legion Post #532, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marty's memory to either The Wounded Warriors Project (P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516) or to the American Legion Post #532 (1571 Demorest Road, Columbus, Ohio 43228)
Marty's legacy is one of steadfast loyalty, heartfelt generosity, and a rich love of life's simple pleasures. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
