Mary J. Casto, a beloved matriarch and spirited soul, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, in Grove City, Ohio, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on July 24, 1933, in Columbus, Ohio, Mary brought joy and laughter into the world for over nine decades.
A cherished member of the community, Mary dedicated many years of her life to working in the cafeteria at Doctor's West, where her warm smile and caring nature touched countless lives. After her retirement, she continued to share her love and generosity with everyone around her, often putting the needs of others before her own.
Educated at Central High School, Mary carried a spirit full of ambition and resilience. She was known for her giggles that could light up any room and her quick wit that only sharpened with age. Her personality blended kindness with a pinch of mischief, making every encounter with her a delightful experience.
Mary's hobbies reflected her creative spirit and desire for family connection. She loved sewing, coloring, and tackling seek-and-find puzzles that provided endless enjoyment. Crafting, cross-stitching, and window shopping were activities she relished, yet nothing compared to the car rides she shared with her cherished grandchildren, each moment transforming into a treasured memory.
Perhaps Mary's proudest accomplishment was raising her grandchildren, a commitment that showcased her immeasurable love and dedication to family. She was surrounded by a vibrant legacy of family, including her son Edward (Eddah) Casto, daughter Julia Smith, son Frank Casto, along with 13 adoring grandchildren, many loving great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren on the way. Her numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family were all fortunate to share in her life, drawing inspiration from her loving nature and unwavering spirit.
Mary is now reunited with her beloved parents, Dewey and Laura Wilson, along with her daughters, Laura, Louise, and Ruth; her sisters LaRue, Liz, Nina, Maida, Barb, and brothers Tom and Don, as well as her life partner, Walter Lininger. Her departure leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her, as she embodied the very essence of love, laughter, and kindness.
As we remember Mary J. Casto, we celebrate her beautiful legacy, a life filled with unyielding love, joyous laughter, and cherished family connections that will continue to inspire us all.
