Mary Jo Groves, known lovingly by all as Nanny, was born on March 15, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio. She lived her entire life in her hometown, where she recently passed away on May 8, 2026. Mary Jo was a kind-hearted, family-oriented woman who was faithful and loving, yet had a stubborn streak that made her strong and resilient.

She attended Pleasant View High School and went on to build a career working in the billing department for OSU until her retirement. Her proudest accomplishment was her family, whom she cherished above all.

Mary Jo found joy in simple pleasures. She loved going to Walmart, gardening, and crafting. She especially enjoyed her girls trips with the Big Girls Club to Red Lobster and other restaurants. One of her fondest memories was making Christmas cookies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a tradition that brought her much happiness.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward Groves, her parents Loren and Josephine (Davis) Tufts, her children James, Richard, and William Groves, her sister Ruth Harris, her brother David Tufts, and grandchildren Jimmy and Ryan Groves.

She is survived by her loving grandchildren Justin (Heather) Groves, Nick Groves, Tyler (Billy) Groves, Matt Groves, Marissa Groves, Leah (Jason) Miller, several great-grandchildren, and her special friends Debbie, Terry, Karen, and Gat. These family members and friends were an important part of her life and will carry her memory forward.

Mary Jo Groves will be remembered for her loving spirit, dedication to family, and the warmth she brought to all around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will endure through those who knew her best.
