Mary Alma Kingsley, 102, of Powell, formally of Detroit, Michigan; passed away on February 15, 2026. She was born in Buena Vista, Georgia on September 30, 1923, to the late Samuel and Mozell (Thomas) Minter. She married and was preceded in death by late Finley E. Guthrie, late George W. Cathcart, and late Louis Kingsley.
Those left to cherish memories of Mary include son, Samuel D. Guthrie; daughter, JoAnne Guthrie (Leo) Hurst; and granddaughters, Shanika, and Jasmine Hurst; great granddaughters, DaShae and Bella Hurst; and a host of nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends.
Along with her parents and spouses, Mary was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Minter, sisters, Mertis Malone, Thelma Johnson, Jane Ervin, and Hazel Allen.
Mary graduated high school from North High School in Akron, Ohio. She was a dedicated mother and wife, caring for the home and family. When she wasn’t caring for her family, Mary loved to read and write travelogs. She also loved to entertain her family. She was also active at her church, teaching Sunday school and vacation bible school.
A service to honor Mary’s life will be held at the convenience of the family.
