Mary Lou Sheets

December 8, 1933 — April 25, 2025

Mary Lou Sheets, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, was born on December 8, 1933, in Majestic, Kentucky. She went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Her journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith, nurturing spirit, and warmth that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mary spent many years in her role as bookkeeper as a way to keep busy. She was a woman of deep faith and cherished her role as a caregiver. Her daughter fondly reminisces about Mary's volunteer work at her school, highlighting the tireless dedication she showed in nurturing not only her own family but also her community.

A friendly and approachable person, Mary spent countless hours on the phone, connecting with friends and family. Those conversations were a vital part of her life and reflected her commitment to maintaining close relationships. Her passion for communication extended into her hobbies, where she enjoyed bonding over the works of Nicholas Sparks with her granddaughter, Rachael. Reading was just one of her many interests, as she also found joy in playing cards, particularly rummy, Canasta, and Rook. Walking was her favorite form of exercise, keeping her vibrant and active.

Mary's chocolate cream pie and her iced tea were well-known among her family and friends, which will be lovingly remembered by all who had the pleasure of tasting it.

Surviving Mary are her loving family, including her son, John (Alice) Meredith; her daughter, Saundra (Irv) Davis; her sisters, Lois Reynolds and Dee Hoffman; her grandchildren, Rachael Messenger, Kevin Davis, and Brad Meredith; and her great-grandchildren, Kaley Messenger, Kaden Messenger, Sophia Davis, Camryn Meredith, and Morgan Meredith, as well as nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Hall; her mother, Mary Alice Jones; her sisters, Nella Mitchell and Hester Poteet; and her husbands, Gordon Poteet and John Sheets.

Mary wished for her passing to be a celebration of life, confident in the bright future that awaited her. She will be greatly missed but fondly remembered for her kindness, compassion, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of those she loved.
