Mattie W. Garrard

Mattie W. Garrard was born March 15, 1947 to William and Necé Garrard in London, Kentucky. Her father, William, served in the army and with her being a military brat, Mattie lived in Florida, Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee. Her mother later moved to Lima, Ohio and then found Columbus, Ohio as her home. Mattie attended Franklin Junior High School and then East High School Tigers. Mattie was known for her athletic abilities in track and field. Her passion is throwing the shot put, it gave her joy.

Mattie would later become a mother with the love of her life, John Hodge whom asked her hand in marriage, it would be Mattie's way or no way. Mattie quickly got back into building her families future, Mattie attended night school later to work in the Home Health Care spectrum. Mattie was well love beyond her 30yrs in the health care industry.

Mattie also opened her home to the foster care community for young mothers and their children. Mattie was always very crafty, she taught ceramics, she love to crochet and cooking for anyone hungry. Motorcycling was her carefree moments in life.

Mattie is greeted into her final home by her parents, William Garrard; mother, Necé Garrard-Belle; as her second father, Edward Belle of Nassau Bahamas; her brothers, William and Reginal; sister, Jeanne; Grandson, Khalif (Rondell), with a host of family and friends.

Surviving this great lost are daughters, Cecilia Beidleman, Keisha (Jose) Andrade Sr.; Dog, "Buddy;" grandchildren, Aaron, Jose, Maria, and Yze'; sister, Brunetta Garrard; daughters of the heart, Janie Edgerton, Sandy Simmons and Bertha Mills; nieces, Coretta Stallworth, Shanise, Jerri, Shelia Garrard, Shamika, Shakinah; nephews, William and Jason Garrard, a host family, two great-nieces and nephews. Special friends and life sisters, Barbara Jennings, Jamie Roberson, & Carol Triggs and Rare Blood MC Club.
