Michael E. Thompson

Michael (Mike) “Papa T” Thompson, 69 of Westerville, Ohio, passed away from an unexpected illness on May 16, 2025. While there may be other Mike Thompsons, THE Mike Thompson has sadly passed.

He was born in Niagara Falls, New York on April 23rd, 1956, to the late Jimmy and Greta (Rieffanaugh) Thompson. He married Cynthia “Cindy” J. Moore on July 19, 1980, and she survives.

Along with his loving wife, Mike is survived by his children, Ruth Ann (Alisha), Mike (Katie), Kate, and AJ (Caitie) as well as 7 grandchildren; Declan, Reese, Caroline, Wesleigh, Everett, Corrine, and Delilah; siblings Jim (Celiflora), Marilyn (John), Janet (Mike), and Debbie (Mike); mother-in- law Lily; sister-in-law Sue; nephew and several nieces; and many other family members and friends. Along with his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his father-in-law William Moore and brother-in-law David Reele.

Mike was a 1974 graduate from Trott Vocational in Niagara Falls, New York and obtained a degree in accounting from Columbus State. He retired from Peregrine Health Services to find enjoyment through traveling with family and friends.

Never wasting a day of his life, Mike found joy in watching and attending sporting events of his favorite teams; the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Indians, The Ohio State Buckeyes, Columbus Clippers and most importantly every team with his kids and grandkids on it. When weather wasn’t permitting, he would be home challenging his mind through puzzles, crosswords, birdwatching, and reading.

Above all, Mike took every opportunity to help and spend time with others. Whether it be helping his family with home improvements, sharing his wisdom (sought out or not), or planning the next family gathering. Mike cherished all relationships, big or small, and never met a stranger.

So, raise a glass, share a laugh, and remember the good times. Papa T wouldn’t want tears – just stories, smiles, and maybe a good pint or two. Until we meet again – Sláinte

Immediate family will greet friends and family from 4 to 7pm, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions – Northeast, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, 43231. Family to share memories and thoughts at 6pm. The family has requested guests to come wearing Buffalo Bills, The Ohio State, or Cleveland Indians apparel (please refrain from all Michigan apparel).
