Monta "Joan" Callander, age 87, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on June 14, 2025. Joan was born on May 4, 1939 in Radcliffe, Ohio to the late Roy Jackson Sr. and Helen Thorpe.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gail Callander, daughter, Kelly Funk, siblings, Carol, Diane, Jr, and Ronnie.
She is lovingly survived by her children David (Margie) Tabor, James (Rosemary) Tabor, Yogi (Joe) Gerhart, Tempa Heller, grandchildren, Connie, Sarah, Zach, Michael, Melissa, Adam, Kristin, Hunter, Hans, Houston, Gabe, Trevor, many great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was a single mother of 5 children who faced hardships and made many sacrifices for her family.
Joan's dedication to her work was equally notable. She retired after 25 years of dedicated service with The State of Ohio/Personnel Board of Review.
Beyond her accomplishments and family, Joan had a vibrant zest for life that shone through her hobbies. She delighted in the excitement of gambling and bingo, with a playful love for watching game shows that brought her joy and laughter.
She will be sadly missed.
A private memorial service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, where immediate family will gather to honor and celebrate the life of Monta "Joan" Callander. In this quiet farewell, may her spirit find peace, and may those who grieve find solace in the timeless bond of love she leaves behind.
