Nicholas R. Liberty, age 88, passed from life at home on March 17, 2016 from various age related and health complications.
Preceded in death by parents Samuel and Sarah Liberty (N.Y.C.), sisters Mildred D'Andrea, (Columbus, Ohio), Anna Silvestri (Florida), Angie Sessa, (Florida), and nephew P.F.C. Michael Sessa, Jr. (Vietnam), and son Robert A. Daniels, Sr. (Columbus, Ohio).
Survived by loving, devoted wife of 42 years, Madelon L. Liberty (Hopkins) of McArthur, Ohio, and loving K-9 companion, Kokoa.
Also survived by sister Marie Heerz of Connecticut, 8 nephews, 2 nieces, grandson, Robert A. Daniels Jr. and Family (Columbus), sister-in-law Alberta Lou Jerome (Florida), brother-in-law, Sherman Hopkins Jr. (Athens, Ohio), special friends Father James Dugal, and Rev. Robert Hayden. Close neighbors Cindy, Brian, and Janet. Born in N.Y.C., graduate of the School of Aviation Trades (1945).
Employed as an aircraft technician with American airlines and Lockheed Aircraft repairing various civilian and military aircraft during World War II and the Berlin Airlift.
Relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 1952 while working for Clydsdale Aviation.
Attended both Franklin and Ohio State Universities.
Employed for several years with North American Aviation as a tool designer.
Cleared to "top secret" by the Department of Navy, and was later employed by various consultant engineering firms preparing plans for bridge and highway construction.
Retired after 32 years of service with the Ohio Department of Transportation, Bureau of Bridges and Structural Design, as an Engineering Technician.
His interests in life involved traditional country music, the martial arts, and the casino games of Craps and Roulette.
Developed several winning strategies of play that were distributed nationally by the "Las Vegas Insider" publication.
While living in N.Y.C., he played guitar and was lead vocalist for the "Melody Lane Ranchers" country-western dance band.
Performed on various television, radio, and in lounges throughout the New York metropolitan area.
Was a charter member of Nashville Country Music Association and was a registered writer with B.M.I.
Became involved with Martial Arts in the 1950's and over time acquired black belt ranks in Judo and Karate (U.S. Judo Association and Seiei-Kan Karate Association. (Ko Sutemi).
Was a certified instructor for the Ohio Peace Officers Training Council.
Taught many self-defense classes throughout central Ohio with wife Madelon, and in 1968 produced a pictorial self-defense album.
Performed many martial arts demonstrations, including many that appeared on television. Member of St. Matthias Catholic Church and Maize Manor United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus.
Funeral service will be Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the funeral Home.
Interment at Elk Cemetery, McArthur, Ohio.
