Norma Jean Shockley (née Culp)
September 24, 1938 - June 10, 2025
Norma Jean (Culp) Shockley, 86, of Granville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on June 10, 2025. For over 17 years, Norma managed her illness with grace and steadiness, continuing to show up for the people and moments that mattered most. Born September 24, 1938, in Pike County, Ohio, Norma lived a life defined by love, resilience, and devotion to her family.
Throughout her life, Norma called Pike County, Columbus, Galloway, and Granville, Ohio, home. A devoted mother, Norma’s greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren. She created a home filled with warmth, fun, and love, always putting her family first.
Norma had a fulfilling career as an executive assistant, known for her capability and nurturing presence. Early in her career, she worked at The Ohio State University Airport (Don Scott Field) and Norton Middle School. She spent the final 27 years of her professional life at McElroy-Minister/Acordia Wells Fargo, where she was deeply appreciated by colleagues for her dedication and kindness.
She is survived by her former husband, Jack Shockley, and their five children: Kimberly (Ron) Vogelgesang, Kristopher (Lisa) Shockley, Karla Shockley (Peter) McCarthy, Keith (Becca) Shockley, Kaci (Scott) Yee, and forever daughters-in-law Jill and Jennifer. Norma was a proud grandmother to her children’s 11 children and 2 adopted children, and a doting great-grandmother to 7 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings, Shirley Sharon, Debbie Lucas, and Paul McCallister.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Viola Mae Culp and Steven Lawrence McGuire, and her brothers James and Kenneth McCallister and Lawrence McGuire.
A gentle and compassionate soul, Norma had a deep love for animals and found companionship in the many pets she cared for over the years. She enjoyed trips with family, especially those that allowed her to explore nature and hike. In her later years, she found peace in the simple joys of watching birds, squirrels, and deer from her porch and window-moments that brought her serenity and connection to the world she cherished.
Norma’s happiest times were those spent surrounded by her family. Her legacy is one of kindness, strength, and quiet devotion. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Pierre Giglio and his team at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC - James) for the exceptional care and support provided to Norma during her illness.
