Odell "Phil" Gressett, a beloved husband, stepfather, and friend, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on December 30, 2025. Born on March 16, 1956, in Chillicothe, Ohio, Phil spent most of his younger years in Mississippi before creating a cherished life filled with love and purpose.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife Sheila, with whom he celebrated 34 wonderful years of marriage. He took great pride in the family they built together, which includes his stepchildren: Tara (Brian) Phipps, Tracy (Jeff) Barton, Chris (Amy) Tippett, Catherine (Richard) Brown, grandchildren; Samantha (Austin) Barton, Marissa (Noah) Bridges, Kayla Tippett, Megan (Harrison) Smith, Amber (Conner) Phipps, Abigail Tippett, and Chris (Molly) Tippett Jr., as well as Jessica (Zack) Barton and Brooke Barton. Phil’s love extended to his many grandchildren, and he cherished every moment spent with them, particularly the joy of his great-grandson, Finn Tippett.
Phil was known for his hard work and dedication. He rarely sat still, always finding projects to engage in, whether it was fixing, building, or completing intricate puzzles. His strong work ethic and hands-on nature were hallmarks of his character. Phil also had a deep love for swimming and enjoying time with horses, activities that brought him peace and a sense of fulfillment. One of his proudest accomplishments was building their retirement home near Gallipolis, where he and Sheila looked forward to enjoying their remaining days together. Phil also had a true love for his dogs, his Dobermans Kilo, Marketa, and Max, and his Chihuahua Lilly.
Phil will be missed not only by his loving family but also by his lifelong friends, Tom, Danny, and Todd, who experienced the warmth of his heart and the strength of his friendship.
The visitation for Phil will be held on January 7, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place from 11:00 AM at the same location.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Odell and Violet, who instilled in him the values that shaped the kind and hardworking man he was. Phil's legacy lives on through the love he shared and the countless lives he touched.
