Pearl Byrum, a cherished member of her community beloved matriarch of her family, passed peacefully on February 25, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio, just a few months shy of her 87th birthday. Born on November 28, 1939, in Belleville, Illinois, Pearl carried a vibrant spirit that illuminated the lives of many throughout her journey.
For 19 years, Pearl dedicated herself to the Bexley Public Library, where her love for reading blossomed into a passion for sharing knowledge and stories with others. Her enthusiasm for literature was matched only by her fondness for crocheting, a craft through which she expressed her creativity and warmth. She could often be found surrounded by loved ones, stitching together memories and conversations, forever fostering connections within her family.
A revered charter member of the Maranatha Baptist Church, Pearl’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her values and inspiring those around her. She lived with purpose and compassion, always seeking to uplift others with her positive outlook and gentle demeanor. Her devotion to her family was unparalleled, as she took immense joy in her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Pearl is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Michael Byrum, alongside their children: Andrew Byrum; Jill (Garry) Miller; Daniel (Bridgot) Byrum; and Paul Byrum. Her legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren—Christopher (Sarah) Byrum; Nathaniel (Eleanor) Byrum; Katie (Kara) Miller; Liz (Brad) Darrow; Hannah (Zach) Kraushaar; Daniel (Shalisha) Byrum; Natalie (Kyle) Clemens; and Ethan Byrum—who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Pearl also had the joy of being a grandmother to twelve great-grandchildren, who brought endless delight to her life. She is further survived by her nieces, Darla Abtin and Windie Compton, who held a special place in her heart.
Pearl’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Russell Compton and Margie (Slaughter) Kleiner, and her brother, James Compton. They, along with countless others, will undoubtedly welcome her with open arms.
Friends and family are invited to honor Pearl's life at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, in Grove City, Ohio. Visitation will be held on March 5, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM. The community Pearl nurtured and cherished will come together in celebration of a remarkable woman who gifted them with her love, laughter, and unwavering support.
Pearl Byrum will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
