Phyllis M. (Brown) Keefer, 94, of Gahanna, Ohio, passed away April 1, 2020.
She was born on December 10, 1925 to the late Martin E. and Phyllis M. (Madara) Brown.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Sever.
Surviving family includes daughter, Barbara Keefer; son, Robert (Donna J.) Keefer; grandchildren, Leslie Keefer, Kris Keefer; great grandson, Ethan Keefer; sister, Sarah M. (Bill) Gilbert;12 nieces and nephews; as well as many other extended family and friends.
Phyllis graduated from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, WV. She then attended the Ohio Institute in Cleveland, OH and graduated in 1946. She received a diploma as a Medical Lab Tech.
At the beginning of her career, she worked as a medical tech/phebtomist for Dr. McCoy, Dr. Thomas, Dr. Jones, and Dr. Hoffreuter in Wheeling, WV. She also worked in the Martins Ferry Hospital Lab in Martins Ferry, OH. In 1970 she moved to Columbus, OH and worked as a medical lab tech at Brown Laboratories and then Roche Medical Labs. She retired from Roche in 1988.
Phyllis was a Methodist by faith. When she was younger, she played the Zither and took flying lessons in a Piper Cub seaplane. Traveling, reading, painting, and jigsaw puzzles were her hobbies. Her talents in art were drawing and painting using charcoal, pastels, and oils.
She traveled to Europe, Mexico, the Bahamas and visited 30 states in the US. Her biggest regret was that she as born too early. She did take a hot air balloon ride but always wanted to do a zip line and free fall from an airplane.
Her favorite place was anywhere with an ocean as she loved the sand, salt and sea breeze. Phyllis was very down to earth. She did not care for roses but her favorite flowers were Hydrangea and Daisies.
