Phyllis Schwebke, 89, of Delaware, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at St. Ann's Hospital.
She was born October 5, 1924 in DeKalb, IL, daughter of late George and Phyllis Bonnell Schwebke Sr.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brothers, George Jr., Wayne and Jerry Schwebke.
She worked for Bell telephone in Aurora, IL as an operator and was promoted to desk clerk in Glen Ellen, IL. Phyllis retired after 37 ½ years of service to stay at home and take care of her mother. She worked with Wayside Cross Mission and received many awards with her service from them. Phyllis was an Elder at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Aurora, IL where she was President of the daughters of Ruth, in the friendship circle, taught Sunday school and was also Secretary and Treasurer. She would also help transport parishioners back and forth to church services. Phyllis worked with the school district in Aurora tutoring children.
She is survived by her sisters, Mary VanDeventer, Joyce McDade, Georgetta Glass and Sandy Mendez; nieces and nephews, Lynn Stafeldt, David VanDeventer, Karen and Debbie Glass, Pam Darlak, Ricky and Mark Arrend, Tracy McDade, Tina Mendez, Phyllis Nagle and Peter Mendez.
Visitation will be Monday, January 27, 2014 from 7:00-8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, DeKalb, IL.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society Central Region Office- FRAO 5555 Frantz Rd. Dublin, OH 43017.
