Phyllis Jean Smith, 82, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at her residence.
She was born February 9, 1931 in Columbus, daughter of the late James and Estella Adkins Smith.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Theophilus Smith; son, Phillip Goins Sr.; grandson, Phillip Goins Jr.; sister, Ruth Brinson; brother, Thomas Brinson, Arthur Smith and Albert Mitchell.
She is survived by her daughters, Sheryl Towns, Sandy Gwynn, Mary Towns and Debra Goins; sons, Jerry L. (Deborah) Towns and Michael Lee (Carolyn) Towns; adopted son, John L. McGinnis; sisters, Betty (James) Thornton and Elizabeth Smith of Cleveland; brother, Basil Smith; granddaughter, Niakieta Goins of Stuarts Draft, VA; cousin, Martha Walls of Springfield; special nephew, Thomas H. Smith; great niece, Catherine Shaw of Washington D.C.; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, October 28, 2013 from 11:00-12:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus, with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 PM.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Central Region Office-FRAO, 5555 Frantz Rd. Dublin, OH 43017 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15120 Chicago, IL 60693.
