Reverend Robert Theodore "Ted" Grotsky, 78, of Thornville, passed away April 12, 2019.
Ted was born November 8, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio to Benjamin Grotsky and Inez (Johnson) Price.
Reverend Grotsky lived a simple and quiet life without the worldly trimmings, rich in his knowledge of history and his love for God. He was a man of faith, loved to teach the Bible, and had an amazing gift to see all as equal. Ted was an avid fisherman, a marathon runner from 1981-1988, loved to snow ski, and is also well known for playing the harmonica.
Ted graduated from Marion-Franklin High School in 1958. He attended Bluffton University for 2 years. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and from Xavier University with a Master's Degree in Education. He completed post graduate study at The Ohio State University and received a Superintendent license from the State of Ohio Department of Education.
Ted started his teaching career at Georgetown School System. He was a retired principal and teacher for the Groveport Madison Middle School where he taught History and coached girls' basketball and track. Ted was the first President of the Ohio Middle School Association and served on the Executive Board in leadership of the National Middle School Association.
Reverend Grotsky was a retired pastor from the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. He received a Master of Divinity from Methodist Theological School in 1996. He was ordained Deacon in The United Methodist Church in 1996 and was ordained Elder in The United Methodist Church in 1998. Reverend Grotsky was the associate pastor at Berlin Church at Lewis Center, and pastored at Ansonia, Farmersville, Hoy Memorial, and Dumontville United Methodist Churches.
Reverend Grotsky was married to Kay Elizabeth Fowler for 28 years. Ted will be deeply missed by his wife; children, Ken (Judy) Grotsky, Cheryl (Joe) Hale, Kathy (Matt) Dexter, Matt (Molly) Shufeldt, Debbie (Duane) Starkey, Laura Shufeldt, Pat (Holly) Shufeldt; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and brother, Charles (Terry) Grotsky. Ted was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 11am at the Pickerington Church of the Nazarene 11775 Pickerington Rd. NW, Pickerington, OH 43147.
