Richard Grimes, Sr, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026. He was born on March 25, 1928 in Columbus, OH to the late George and Pauline (Zitzke) Grimes.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandpa, great-grandpa and great great grandpa. Richard loved spending time with his family and took great pride in watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow.
He was a dedicated soldier, enjoyed many years on the farm with his family. He enjoyed planes which he worked on in the military and retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base still working on the same planes. He was a Amateur Ham Operator and he loved his radios. His children will miss his great sense of humor.
He is survived by his five children: Patricia Grinstead, Deborah Shuler, Richard (Michelle) Grimes, Sheri Snyder, and Karen (Rick) Julian. Richard also leaves behind a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will continue to carry his love and memory with them.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife Gladys Grimes, sister Shirley, his son-in-law, Jim Grinstead Sr.; and his grandson, Jimmy Grinstead.
Richard will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him, but his love, kindness, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Friends may call at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 from 10:30am until time of service at 11:30am.
Memorial contributions may be directed to you local American Legion in Richard's name.
